Smart switches replace the wall plate itself, so the circuit is controllable from the app, by voice, or by pressing the panel as you always did. That last point matters — guests and children can still operate the lights normally.

Check before you order

• Neutral wire — most smart switches require one at the back box. Many older Egyptian installations only run live and switched-live. No-neutral models exist and are marked as such.
• Gang count — count the physical buttons on your current plate, not the number of lamps.
• Box depth — smart switches are deeper than standard plates.
